Slash's Clock Day!

"Should have been in the clock day 06 collection :("

submission: Slash's Clock Day!
date: April 23, 2007

Once again I am late to the party, and watching this months after the event (in 2 and a half years on NG I'm yet to witness a clock day). It should have made the collection, but never mind.

The graphics are the best I have seen from you, and there was some genuinely nice animation in the middle there. It's a shame you couldn't animate the fight, but the fact you couldn't and admitted as much was funny enough to make up for it :D

These older submissions of yours have a style I really like. A combination of your great artwork, and some hilarious dialog and epic music to go with it. More submissions like this would be great :)

The music was good, although again I didn't recognise the tracks you used. It was a good choice for the submission anyway.

Plenty of violence, and crazy gun wielding grannies are always good for a laugh.

The humor was top notch, with a good parody of airports (something I have seen far too much of with all my travelling in the last year), and some fantastic writing. Also the 'Nooooooooooo' at the end was brilliant :D.

I confess I didn't watch to the end of the credits, so if there was more after that I'm sorry- I'm hungry and wanted to write this review before getting food!

4/5 overall, and the best flash I have seen from you. It deserves to be your highest mark, even though part of that is due to the mark inflation on clock day.

Author's Response:

This flash is still my most time-consuming work...took me a week (lol). It just BARELY was ready in time for Clock Day, too.

ZOMG YOU NEED TO BE THERE NEXT CLOCK DAY. It was fucking CRAZY, man. Over 1000 submissions...damn damn damn.

Despite the fact that nearly EVERYTHING passes on Clock Day, I still made this my bestest work, heh.

The only thing after the credits was me shouting at the listener to go the fuck away. XD

The music was "Rising Will To Fight" and "Ryuusei", both Naruto music.

SlashClassic0: Xiaolin

"Not your best work"

date: April 23, 2007

I guess I didn't get parts of that as I've never watched Xiaolin and indeed have no clue what it is, but there is still plenty of comedy gold in there amongst the distorted voices.

The graphics weren't good, and I can't really give them any marks, but it was in a style that you have made your own, and so you get points for originality (a rare thing on NG these days).

The sound drove me crazy after a while- I never have liked those voices, but it was a part of what made it funny so again you gain a few marks.

The humor is (as usual) where you get all your marks. It has a similar comedy style to the character 'Vicky Pollard' on the British comedy show Little Britain (if you haven't seen it then find a way to as it is full of the crude kind of humor I'm sure you will love). By that I mean that often you can't quite catch what is being said (especially in the faster parts), but you just hear the odd profanity or something really gross pop out every now and again that has you rolling around laughing.

2/5, not your best, but still good enough :)

Author's Response:

Xiaolin Showdown is a show about a bunch of underage losers dicking around with magical sacred objects. The two sides race to each artifact as they are revealed, and then must fight for the right to keep it in a "Xiaolin Showdown".

In this exciting episode, the Dildo of the Hydra was revealed; the forces of good and evil converged upon the mystical relic, and fought for it in a huge big gay orgy.

There's a female character, but NO GIRLZ ALOUD LOLOL

Heheh, yes. Huge bouts of random gay sex are amusing. Glad you enjoyed, heheh.

"A good message put in an... interesting way :P"

date: April 23, 2007

Firstly, the message you put across in this flash is one that has driven me crazy for years, both on NG and the real world. I've never understood how the word 'gay' was an acceptable or clever way to put someone down, and I still don't. Some of my best friends are gay, and some of the greatest guys you could ever hope to meet. Frankly being called gay is more of a compliment than anything when you know people like this. I completely agree that anyone that does use it as an insult is probably unsure of their own sexuality, and as such sees homosexuality as a bad thing, when in reality it is nothing of the sort.

Anyway, to the flash itself...

Not much in the way of animation, and not nearly enough of your art work in here, so the graphics mark is pretty low. Again there is a lot of text, although you are a good enough writer to make up for it, and once again it was hilarious. The Latin names and feeling of stalking some wild species was brilliant, giving it a real nature documentary feel.

I didn't like the music choices as much as some of your other flash work, but that is personal preference more than anything. I'm not an anime fan, so the first track meant nothing to me, and I don't think anyone likes that awful Barbie song *shudders*. Still, it was appropriate for the message you were trying to convey, although YMCA would have been even better :D.

A solid 3/5. Shame I missed the review from Kloris :(

Author's Response:

YOU WRITE LONG REVIEWS

Heheh, yes. This flash is a warning to losers...you use 'gay' as a derogatory warning, and I see it, and I'm in a bad mood...YOU GET FLASH-RAPED. Heheheh.

I like Barbie Girl. I love to put it in my soundtracks in GTA: Vice City, and laugh as I shoot down innocent people to the sounds of Aqua.

Heh, yes, the review was good...he tried to make a claim that gay people are the ones causing trouble, and not the hoards of uneducated hicks who harass and beat them. I also believe he made some claim about how gay people cause diseases or something...needless to say, it was abusive, and was cut, heh.

You know what I love, is when I say something...unusual...and some newbie goes "ARE YOU GAY, LOL?" and I say "no, I'm bi...handsome" and then proceed to make them question their own sexuality. :evil laugh:

Slash Returns

"'bitchin' it most certainly was"

submission: Slash Returns
date: April 23, 2007

I'd never seen this submission before as you sent it when I was inactive over the summer.

Once again it was an epic piece of work, although it was lacking in your usual artistic style for much of it. Maybe a few more pictures would have been nice to break up all the text (although some things are most definitely best left to the imagination!).

As such the graphics mark suffered, but you more than made up for it with an awesome song choice (I could listen to that all day, even after seeing the protect movie as many times as I have), and some fantastically funny dialog. It started off as a powerful story, but finished up leaving me in stitches- you can't ask for more than that from a flash :D.

And once again Slash has returned to help his brethren in the Barracks, and all shall rejoice at his second/third/whatever coming :).

3/5

You should remake some of these old submissions with your improved animation ability- this could be even better with more pictures and a bit of animation in it.

Author's Response:

This was the first flash I ever got to pass without any co-authors (although I added some later, when they joined the loosely-organized Slash Returns team). :-D

I made this in like, thirty minutes, totally throwing it together with NO expectation to see it pass, but it DID, rofl.

The song IS good...I should've pumped up the quality, though...the file size wouldn't have suffered too much. But back then, I didn't know how to, sigh.

I can totally see a Slash Returns Remake series coming soon. XD

Glad you enjoyed!

"Epic"

date: April 23, 2007

One of your older pieces, and I guess the lack of even the tiniest amount of animation proves that...

...but your drawing style, the choice of music, and the well written dialog more than make up for that. It wasn't funny like a lot of your other flash work, but it was certainly epic, and there was a great story running throughout (especially for a glorified 'I ranked up' flash :P). The music was perfect for this animation and really added to the whole feeling.

Your drawing style is really unique as well, with a kind of crude style that actually comes across really well. Especially the crazy blood effects.

Some of your more recent work has included some simple animation as well, and maybe this would have benefited from that extra skill that you have developed, but this is still a solid piece, so 3/5 from me.

Author's Response:

I miss ranking up. Gave me an excuse to flash...

Looking back on this flash, I'm like, 4325234 times better now, heh. I've learned so many little tricks since then...completely abandoned MS Paint, the little line-bend thing, gradients and lasso and blah blah blah. One day, I might remake the original Slash Returns movies. XD

"My eyes have been opened"

date: April 17, 2007

Wow, I had no idea. I may have to put on hold my current e-crush in persuit of this goddess of which you speak. I'm sure BigBadRon won't mind...

*ahem*

Another ridiculous flash from you, all be it a little different from the secret episodes. For a start it is better drawn, with half decent graphics, even if it is lacking animation. And no, a fapping stick figure does not count :P

Also a great choice of song, and a pretty clever progression as the flash goes on, especially as Slash rises up through the ranks. One small complaint was that it got a little dull towards the end, with fairly repetitive pictures.

And it was funny. Really, really funny. I hope Ramagi reviews it, as I would love to see what she has to say.

So a solid 3/5 for this one- with some better animation skills you would be getting some great scores, but then they wouldn't be Slash animations, so I'm not complaining :D

Author's Response:

Who DOESN'T fall for ramagi? Hell, my entire quest for super B/P power is to impress the Blam Queen. :-D

Heh, yes. I was considering making a secret episode for her...sure would have been faster and easier...but eh, she's been such an influence on me ever since I joined up (I remember seeing her having that sexy badge and Deity Whistle, and deciding to go for both, heh)...I wanted to put some effort into this, lol.

FIREHOUSE WINS FOREVER

Yeah, I kinda did get lazy near the end. The characters may seem easy to draw, but once you draw them that many times, your arm starts hurting...especially when you have a shitty mouse and a bitchy computer, lol.

She's gonna review it, which rocks. Can't wait. ^_^

Yep...if I really wanted to, I could make some good flash. But that's not me...I prefer speed and humor over time and graphics. Hell, I've slacked off all my life, doing the bare minimum, whether in school (proved to all them IB teachers that you CAN pass the program without trying) or work (which I got fired from, rofl...not totally for the reason in Slash Returns, but it did play a part) or flash (obviously).

"Not good"

submission: totw
date: April 17, 2007

First of all I see you changed the name of the flash not long after it passed- I think that the disrespect that you are showing towards the victims in Virginia is disgusting, but that has nothing to do with the Flash itself, so I won't go on about it.

The flash was poor in almost every regard. Once again, as with so many KK flash submissions, there was a relatively well animated preloader with a catchy tune, followed by a flashing spam image. I fail to see how this is funny, or requires any talent.

Graphics- 1 for the preloader, but the flash itself doesn't deserve any marks as it is nothing more than a picture of a cats head and some crudely drawn images.

Style- a poor style that isn't original and isn't funny. Submissions like this have been around since Newgrounds began, and they got old a long time ago.

Sound- no original sounds, just songs imported from somewhere else. And none of them could be said to fit with the flash, so just one point.

Violence- none

Interactivity- none

Humor- none

Overall- I can't see anything in this flash that merits a point, so I haven't given you any. In future please attempt to include a plot, real animation rather than flashing images, some original sounds, possibly taken from the audio portal with the correct credit given, and a point to your animations. I've seen good KK flashes, so I know you guys have the ability, so all I ask is that you put the effort in to produce something that can entertain people.

EggClock's Lie

"One of the best clock animations I've seen"

submission: EggClock's Lie
date: February 19, 2007

Well your reward for all your hard work (besides all that satisfaction, good score etc nonsense) is a rare review from me- consider yourself lucky!

I'm not a great fan of clock animations, but as they go that was one of the best that I have seen. So here comes the break down:

Graphics: minimal and fairly standard for a clock animation. They were certainly pretty and colorful, but with minimal animation involved it is hard to give them a high score. I realize this is largely due to the constraints of the clock animation style, and perhaps in future you could work on more going on in the background etc. to keep the viewer entertained with what he is looking at rather than simply the witty dialogue (more about that later). Of course I have no clue how hard that would be, what with my non-existent animation skills, and believe me even a waggling line is way beyond my capability, but I'd like to see a little more going on in future projects.

Style: clock animation, so loses points on the originality front. Having said that it is more colorful than most that I have seen, and is certainly well drawn, with a nice, clean, simple look.

Sound: Again, same old voices seen in far too many movies, but I can't mark you down too much for that as it is part and parcel of a clock movie. The music was great though, and always appropriate for the scene being shown, and on the whole it was very nicely synched together.

Violence: None really, but you got a few marks for making a clock piss himself :)

Interactivity: None- enough said.

Humor: Now here is where this movie really set itself above most other clock movies out there. It was a good plot with plenty of witty lines and it certainly got a few laughs out of me. Excellent comic use of the word 'shit' and I never thought a crudely drawn yellow 'piss circle' could make me laugh so much. A bit random in places, but you didn't let the jokes drag on too long and on the whole it was just the right length to keep me entertained right up to the end.

So pretty damn good for a clock movie, and a solid 7/10 from me. Some better graphics and something a tad more original with your obvious sense of humor and you'll be getting even higher marks in future :)

Author's Response:

This is serioulsy the best review I have ever received from any of the flash animations I have ever made. I agree with all the points you made about the graphics, and about how it isn't that quite original since it is a Clock animation. I am very pleased you found my sense of humor amusing, since it was one of the factors I was quite afraid of because probably users wouldn't find it as funny as you did.

I really wasn't expecting a review from you, and it really came as a surprise. This review means a whole lot to me and I much thankful for it. Thanks a lot for the constructive criticism, the kind words, and the overall effort you made in writing out this review. Again, thanks a whole lot and I hope you'll enjoy my next installments as you did with this one. :)

Seven Deadly Sins

"Brilliant"

submission: Seven Deadly Sins
date: January 16, 2007

As far as depth and storyline goes this has to be one of the best games I've seen on NG, if not the best. Maybe there are other things out there with more re-playability and length, but while playing this game is incredibly funny and entertaining.

Graphics- not the best in the world, but still pretty damn good, and in perfect keeping with the feel of the game. The slightly daft cartoony look works extremely well, though how he looks like an Adonis I will never know...

Style- A game that makes you want to play to the end, and it's fairly unique as far as I can see as well. Although there are other games out there that require you to wander around and explore (almost all dating sims), none are quite like this one. The way you can move the camera around on screen by moving the mouse is something I haven't seen before in this type of game, and really adds to the exploration.

Sound- fantastic music choices throughout, and some excellent voice acting, although in places the sound bytes didn't work, hence the deduction of one point. The dialogue is hilarious as well.

Violence- with wrath as one of the targets a bit of violence was inevitable. Wrath was the last one I found though- I thought beating up the guy in the woods would have been enough.

Interactivity- fantastic from start to finish. A couple of entertaining mini-games that can easily pass the time (the Dance Dance Revolution game is HARD!), and plenty of things to explore in the world. I also loved how getting drunk made everything sway.

Humor- top notch, with possibly the best ending line of any online game ever.

A worthy 10 then. My only faults are that it gets a little repetetive simply gaining stats until you can achieve your goal, especially in the gym and the hair salon. There is also only limited re-playability as much would be the same second time around (I assume), although there is reason to go back and seduce the other girls, and see the other ending. The only other fault was the sound glitch that I mentioned above.

I really hope you make some kind of sequel to this- maybe one with the 12 commandments?

5/5

Author's Response:

cheers,
10 commandments last time I checked.
Beating up the naturlist doesnt get you wrath coz its self defence, he attacks you.
The sound bytes missing are one of girls telling you good looking/strong you are and as theres 30 different levels I didnt feel like making and putting in 60 extra sound bytes.

Ashes Bashes!

"Good for a few minutes"

submission: Ashes Bashes!
date: December 5, 2006

As a Brit and an avid England cricket fan it certainly felt good to clobber Warney, but after a play or two this becomes dull very fast and is a very one dimensional game.

The graphics are excellent and more than good enough for a flash of this type, and the style of the game is very good as well. A great choice of music, although for a cricket game it is pretty much the only choice, and the synching of the sounds with the hits is very well done.

Violence gets an average score as you don't get to beat the Aussies into a bloody pulp, but I guess you can't have everything (and after Englands capitulation last night I'm angrier at Fletcher than the Aussies anyway). Interactivity is good as it is an easy to pick up and play game with simple controls and an obvious objective, and there is a small amount of comedy value.

On the whole it works well for what it is, but can't be a great game with the limited amount difficulty and variation in the game. Maybe have an ability to change the time limit, and also make a few other things pop up to add to the difficulty level. Including this in a compilation of other cricket based games would also add to the longevity and replayability, but as a stand alone game it just doesn't have enough going for it to remain interesting after a couple of plays (I'm sure you realise that and never intended anything else, but I'm trying to explain the reason why I gave you the score I have).
