A good game, but a few problems

Well, one problem- I correctly solved one of the puzzles only for it to tell me that I was incorrect. It turns out that it wanted a slightly different correct solution (a reversal between a black and yellow piece, in two ajacent boxes) , but there was no way I was to know that. Both solutions were equally correct (I checked the whole thing exhaustively to make sure), so it is a fault with your game and not me.

Other than that it was very nicely done, with good graphics and easily playable gameplay. A few dropped points in the style part for lack of originality, as Sudoku games are pretty common, but other than that there isn't much that can be improved.

Not good

First of all I see you changed the name of the flash not long after it passed- I think that the disrespect that you are showing towards the victims in Virginia is disgusting, but that has nothing to do with the Flash itself, so I won't go on about it.

The flash was poor in almost every regard. Once again, as with so many KK flash submissions, there was a relatively well animated preloader with a catchy tune, followed by a flashing spam image. I fail to see how this is funny, or requires any talent.

Graphics- 1 for the preloader, but the flash itself doesn't deserve any marks as it is nothing more than a picture of a cats head and some crudely drawn images.

Style- a poor style that isn't original and isn't funny. Submissions like this have been around since Newgrounds began, and they got old a long time ago.

Sound- no original sounds, just songs imported from somewhere else. And none of them could be said to fit with the flash, so just one point.

Violence- none

Interactivity- none

Humor- none

Overall- I can't see anything in this flash that merits a point, so I haven't given you any. In future please attempt to include a plot, real animation rather than flashing images, some original sounds, possibly taken from the audio portal with the correct credit given, and a point to your animations. I've seen good KK flashes, so I know you guys have the ability, so all I ask is that you put the effort in to produce something that can entertain people.

Brilliant

As far as depth and storyline goes this has to be one of the best games I've seen on NG, if not the best. Maybe there are other things out there with more re-playability and length, but while playing this game is incredibly funny and entertaining.

Graphics- not the best in the world, but still pretty damn good, and in perfect keeping with the feel of the game. The slightly daft cartoony look works extremely well, though how he looks like an Adonis I will never know...

Style- A game that makes you want to play to the end, and it's fairly unique as far as I can see as well. Although there are other games out there that require you to wander around and explore (almost all dating sims), none are quite like this one. The way you can move the camera around on screen by moving the mouse is something I haven't seen before in this type of game, and really adds to the exploration.

Sound- fantastic music choices throughout, and some excellent voice acting, although in places the sound bytes didn't work, hence the deduction of one point. The dialogue is hilarious as well.

Violence- with wrath as one of the targets a bit of violence was inevitable. Wrath was the last one I found though- I thought beating up the guy in the woods would have been enough.

Interactivity- fantastic from start to finish. A couple of entertaining mini-games that can easily pass the time (the Dance Dance Revolution game is HARD!), and plenty of things to explore in the world. I also loved how getting drunk made everything sway.

Humor- top notch, with possibly the best ending line of any online game ever.

A worthy 10 then. My only faults are that it gets a little repetetive simply gaining stats until you can achieve your goal, especially in the gym and the hair salon. There is also only limited re-playability as much would be the same second time around (I assume), although there is reason to go back and seduce the other girls, and see the other ending. The only other fault was the sound glitch that I mentioned above.

I really hope you make some kind of sequel to this- maybe one with the 12 commandments?

cheers,
10 commandments last time I checked.
Beating up the naturlist doesnt get you wrath coz its self defence, he attacks you.
The sound bytes missing are one of girls telling you good looking/strong you are and as theres 30 different levels I didnt feel like making and putting in 60 extra sound bytes.

Good for a few minutes

As a Brit and an avid England cricket fan it certainly felt good to clobber Warney, but after a play or two this becomes dull very fast and is a very one dimensional game.

The graphics are excellent and more than good enough for a flash of this type, and the style of the game is very good as well. A great choice of music, although for a cricket game it is pretty much the only choice, and the synching of the sounds with the hits is very well done.

Violence gets an average score as you don't get to beat the Aussies into a bloody pulp, but I guess you can't have everything (and after Englands capitulation last night I'm angrier at Fletcher than the Aussies anyway). Interactivity is good as it is an easy to pick up and play game with simple controls and an obvious objective, and there is a small amount of comedy value.

On the whole it works well for what it is, but can't be a great game with the limited amount difficulty and variation in the game. Maybe have an ability to change the time limit, and also make a few other things pop up to add to the difficulty level. Including this in a compilation of other cricket based games would also add to the longevity and replayability, but as a stand alone game it just doesn't have enough going for it to remain interesting after a couple of plays (I'm sure you realise that and never intended anything else, but I'm trying to explain the reason why I gave you the score I have).

Brilliant

That was certainly one of the best games I've played on this site, and probably the best mario themed one.

The graphics were simple as they are in all 2D mario games, but by no means does that detract from it and indeed it probably makes it better. As it was my comp was lagging up by World 8 so anything more would have made it close to unplayable near the end.

A brilliant style of game that was both original and challenging. the learning curve was extremely well done, with each level posing a slightly greater challenge as you go along. The ship level in world 8 is an absolute bitch though, as was that chain chomp boss.

Sound- many of the classic mario soundtracks from a number of games. Can't exactly fault that now!

Violence- not much, but there doesn't need to be. It certainly felt good clobbering many of the classic mario enemies.

Interactivity- it's a game, and a damn good one at that. The addition of mouse controls was a big bonus, as were the checkpoints- without them it would have been damn near impossible to complete.

Humour- again there isn't a great deal, but some of the unlockable characters certainly made me chuckle. *SPOILER ALERT* the giant chain chomp was brilliant- that certainly taught all those enemies a lesson!

Down points? You've brought back some horrible memories of those hammer throwing guys- I hate them as much in this game as I did in all the original mario games. Very clever how you got them throwing the hammers directly where you want to be flying a lot of the time- by the end I was just ignoring the points and desperately trying to stay alive!

So overall a near flawless game that kept me entertained for a couple of hours and is challenging right up until the end.
5/5 and probably front page

Brilliant!

Well, that is an absolute masterpiece if ever I saw one! A fabulous plot combined with great graphics, and some truly terrifying sounds and cut scenes (the ghost in the vent actually made me jump!). The single best atmosphere created in a game (and I mean ANY game) that I have ever seen!

Plus a serious level of difficulty! I got up to the cellar, and had the gun, but got a bit stuck there having read the entry about the exmortis. Unfortunately my connection then went on the blink and I lost my progress, but no doubt I'll give it a shot in the not too distant future.

So, wonderful, great, amazing, what else is there to say?? Oh, and now I have to try and sleep (its 1:30 AM here); I don't rate my chances!

5/5, frontpage, the works!

Great game!

First up I'd like to say that this a truly great game. It is well made with excellent graphics, sound and almost endless playability once the scoreborad gets a bit more competetive. In particular the cut scenes are excellent, giving a really god sense of story often absent in games, as well as being short so as not to distract from the most important element, the game play.

However, I can't help but feel it is a little repetetive, especially in the story mode, where each and every level is pretty much the same as the last, with the only difference being in the shape of what you are avoiding. Although done extremely well, after a while it does get a little tedious, and makes playing it again a bit of a chore if you die near the end (as I did).

Secondly, I feel that this would have had an extremely good shout at daily first on pretty much any day, except today!! Releasing it the same day as Red Riding Hood, by Granfaloon, may have been a mistake, though I guess you aren't doing this for the awards, rather for the enjoyment of making flash games.

In short, excellent, though your games pretty much always are!

Denvish responds:

Yeah, it was the first time for me in terms of 'proper' cutscenes. I found it extremely time-consuming, but I think it's worth it, and credit due to Ani-x (SeoulSnake) for making some pretty damn cool animations.

I have to agree about repetitiveness, to a certain extent. I would have liked to add a bit more variety. But after working on this for 3+ weeks, I was just sick of looking at the code (mostly bug-killing) over the past few days. Maybe I will make something else based on the same engine at some point, or rework the engine so it's less CPU-demanding, and can therefore add more graphical and gameplay options.

I have to admit I expected the score on this to have sunk to ~3.5 on its way through judgement, but I'm very happy and grateful to the voters that it's stuck around 4.0 (so far). I'm certainly not expecting any awards, with it being a Tuesday, but I'm not going to complain if the game gets one =)

Thanks very much for taking the time to type out such an in-depth review.

Not bad, but could use a few improvements

This is one of those frustrating flashes that shows real ability, but it is wasted due to a few little things. The graphics and general idea of this flash are excellent, as are the sound effects, although some music in the map part would have been nice. Also the way the tension is built up is truly excellent; even though it was just a cartoon figure I found myself genuinely tense as he pulled the trigger.

However, there are problems. First up is how repetetive it is. Every single animation is identical, only differing in how many shots it takes to fire and which direction the character is facing. With a bit of variation in the deaths, even as little as the wound in a different place and some different splatter marks, this would have been much better. Another idea is some sort of reaction on a successful pulling of the trigger; a sigh of relief, or pumping of the fist etc. would really bring across the stress and tension involved. An especially good idea might be to have a different sequence for those times when the shooter has a 0% chance of survival, say him crying as he pulls or something. Also, the starting sequence got REALLY boring, very fast, so try changing that, maybe to suit the part of the world it is.

Secondly, it didn't appear to be even who won or lost. I came out with 10 wins and 15 defeats, which was a little away from the supposed 50% chance you have, so maybe this could be fiddled slightly.

Finally, if you are going to call it a game then try and add a bit more interactivity. Maybe let you torment the opposition as he pulls the trigger, or have mini games that increase your odds of survival. That would really make this a classic!

With some of these improvements this would be amazing. As it is I can only give it 5/10 for it's repetetiveness and lack of gameplay. Please try again, and make this the masterpiece I know it can be!!

Addictive!!

Wow, you're going to have me playing that all night now!! It seems endlessly replayable thanks to a tough difficulty curve making the game get hard very quickly!!

The graphics were great, despite limited use due to the style of the game. Music was ok, but boring and repetetive after a very short time. Consider changing the music after each level or something to keep it fresh. Interactivity was clearly strong, and violebce and humour were irrelevant.

My only complaint, it could do with some more power ups to keep things interesting, though I am stumped as to what you could include.

Overall, very good and playable game, I look forward to more submissions in future!

5/5 (note, ranked 9 on leaderboard!! yeay!)

Good, but a few problems

That was a really well made game, that was extremely playable- quite a feat for something like this. The story progressed well and was interesting, and its length was a serious bonus- far too many flashes of this type have a couple of scenes and then end. On top of all that the music was well done and suitable.

However, there are a few complaints. First up the graphics are nothing special. I admit that I like the black and white backgrounds, but the stick men were a little too 'blobby' for my liking, and all of it just needed a bit of touching up. Secondly, I realise that you are French and therefore may struggle with the language, but some of your sentences didn't really make sense, and the spelling was pretty poor too. Mabe in future try and find someone who is better at our language to check over it, or really try hard with a dictionary to get the spelling right. However, I can't really penalise you for this as it isn't your fault, and your English is a lot better than my French so I can't really talk.

A good effort that needs touching up...
